Expert Safety Consulting & Training in Atlanta, Georgia

Atlanta moves freight: through Hartsfield-Jackson's cargo complexes, the Fairburn intermodal yard and the distribution centers along I-75, I-85 and I-285. BHG Safety Partners trains the people who load, lift and build around it.

Workplace Safety in Atlanta

The Metro Atlanta Chamber calls the region a leading global center for supply chain management, and names Amazon, The Coca-Cola Company, Delta Air Lines, The Home Depot, Norfolk Southern and UPS among the companies that run distribution or headquarters operations here. For a safety manager, that translates into large warehouse workforces, constant forklift and pallet-jack traffic, and peak seasons when temporary staff need to be trained quickly.

Freight doesn't only move by truck. Hartsfield-Jackson has three air cargo complexes with direct access to I-75, I-85 and I-285, and CSX's intermodal terminal in Fairburn handles container traffic southwest of downtown. Ramp, rail yard and cross-dock work carries struck-by, noise and heat hazards that a typical office safety plan doesn't cover.

We are based in Hannibal, Missouri, with no Atlanta office. BHG instructors come to your site for training and consulting, and live virtual sessions are available for classroom content.

Atlanta Industries We Support

  • Warehousing and distribution

Fulfillment and distribution centers across the metro run conveyors, high-bay racking and fleets of powered industrial trucks. Forklift struck-by incidents, rack collapse, dock falls and repetitive lifting are the recurring problems.

  • Air cargo and airport operations

Hartsfield-Jackson's North, Midfield and South cargo complexes, along with a USDA-approved perishables complex, keep ground handlers busy around aircraft, tugs and loaders. Vehicle and aircraft struck-by, noise, and heat on the ramp are daily exposures.

  • Rail and intermodal

Norfolk Southern opened its headquarters building in Midtown Atlanta in 2021, and CSX operates its Fairburn intermodal terminal on the metro's southwest edge. Container lifts, yard vehicle traffic and trailer handling drive the risk at these facilities and the drayage and warehouse operations that serve them.

  • Construction

The Atlanta BeltLine is still building out its 22-mile loop of trails, parks and transit around the city core, alongside steady commercial and residential construction. Falls, trenching, struck-by and caught-between hazards lead the list on these sites.

What Shapes Safety Work in Atlanta

  • The City of Atlanta sits across two OSHA jurisdictions. OSHA assigns Fulton County, which holds most of the city, to the Atlanta West Area Office, and DeKalb County to the Atlanta East Area Office at 2296 Henderson Mill Road NE. Clayton and Cobb counties also fall under Atlanta West.

  • Georgia does not run an OSHA State Plan, so private employers follow federal OSHA standards. There is no federal heat standard, but OSHA uses the General Duty Clause to cite serious heat hazards, which matters for ramp crews, trailer unloaders and roofers during long Atlanta summers.

  • If your warehouse brings on temporary or seasonal staff for peak season, OSHA treats the staffing agency and the host employer as jointly responsible for their safety, and the host site is expected to provide training specific to its own equipment and hazards. Settle who trains on what before the surge, not during it.

It depends on the county. OSHA lists Fulton, Clayton and Cobb counties under the Atlanta West Area Office at 1995 North Park Place SE, and DeKalb and Gwinnett counties under the Atlanta East Area Office at 2296 Henderson Mill Road NE. If your building has an Atlanta address, check which county it sits in. Both are federal OSHA offices applying the same standards.
Yes. OSHA requires forklift training to include formal instruction, hands-on practice and an evaluation of each operator on the type of truck they will use in your workplace. We run that at your facility, on your equipment and in your aisles, and can split sessions across shifts so the building keeps running. We also help you set up a refresher and re-evaluation schedule.
Yes. We travel to sites across metro Atlanta, including the airport-area cities in south Fulton and Clayton County. Training happens onsite so we can use your docks, racking and equipment as the classroom. Our home base is Hannibal, Missouri, so we plan visits in advance; classroom portions can also run as live virtual sessions.
OSHA 10-hour general industry gives entry-level workers a foundation in hazard recognition. OSHA 30-hour is designed for supervisors and people with safety responsibility, and goes deeper on topics like powered industrial trucks, walking-working surfaces, lockout and hazard communication. A common setup for a distribution center is the 10-hour for hourly staff and the 30-hour for leads and managers.
Build a written heat illness program: water, rest breaks and shade or cooling, a gradual acclimatization schedule for new and returning workers, and training so crews recognize heat exhaustion and heat stroke early. Trailer interiors and aircraft ramps can run hotter than the forecast high, so measure where people actually work. We can help write the plan and train supervisors to run it.
